Christ Church Ithan encourages our members to participate in the ministries that are vital to the health of an active church. Below are a number of ways that you can help.
Ushers greet people as they enter church for worship and assist during the service with the offering, at communion and following the service.
Greeters complement the Ushers, welcoming those who enter our doors each Sunday to extend God's love to our congregation and visitors.
Hospitality volunteers prepare and serve coffee, tea, cake and cookies during the hospitality hour following 10:00 Sunday service, and clean up the cups and plates following this short social gathering.
Acolyte, from the Greek word for Follower, is a lay person, often a child or teenager, who performs assisting duties during the worship service such as lighting candles, carrying books, and carrying the cross at the beginning and end of the service.
A Service Assistant is a lay person who helps the priest during Holy Eucharist. The assistant performs duties during the preparation of the Eucharist and administers wine during Holy Commuinion. The assistant may also perform the readings and lead the Prayers of the People.
The Vestry is an elected body of 9 members, plus the rector, whose primary responsibilities are to take care of parish finances and the parish buildings, and to choose individuals to fill various positions of leadership and representation, such the selection of a new rector, and the choice of delegates to the diocesan convention. The Vestry also serves as an advisory council to the rector who by church law is the parish's chief liturgical and pastoral officer. Vestry members serve a three-year term of office.
Altar Guild prepare the church for Sunday services and special occasions. Duties include setting the altar and preparing communion vessels. Our roster system helps to restrict this commitment to just a few Sundays per year. For more info please contact Nancy Breitling.
